Oh, BBC Sherlock. Your google results shock clumsy philosophy majors everywhere >.<

First off, welcome!
I don’t know why the link to the submission page is refusing to show up, but here it is: http://fuckyeahphilosophymajorferret.tumblr.com/submit If that’s not working, you can always submit through the ask box.
Also, thanks for submitting! I’ve let this blog stagnate because of school and for want of any good ideas.

First, about updates: as I’ve mentioned in earlier posts, the majority of the ferrets were submissions, not my own creations. But you’re right, I definitely should try to update more often :)
Second: Since this is a blog dedicated to a particular meme, I’m thinking that I should try to keep non-theme stuff off as much as possible. I’ve answer the rest of your question on my personal blog right here: http://outofthedarkness.tumblr.com/post/14201814043/thefilthyunicorn-asked-1-the-person-who-says#notes

Existence precedes essence. There is no why. You just are.

WELL
I’m not too sure about your metaphysical claims and the consequent assertion that the only goodness you have what pleases you or happiness (the two aren’t necessarily the same thing.) In order to answer your question, however, I’ll accept the premises and I’ll take your word for it that neither school nor society (though I am always wary of speaking about “society” as if it is something outside and not inclusive of the individual) will allow you to be happy.
So: how can you be happy? Just do it. Choose to be happy. Consider that being happy is not so much a matter of one’s situation in life as it is a matter of conscious will. Thus, in L’Etranger, Meursault is happy even as he sits on death row precisely because he chooses to be happy. His situation is still dire; his execution is still imminent. But by rejecting the possibility that he will be pardoned - by accepting the realities of his situation - he frees himself and allows himself simply to live. His predicament is not a happy one, to be sure, and he has no way of making it better; he cannot change reality. All he can do is accept that reality and then choose to be happy where he is.
Of course, that’s not easy. Look at all that Meursault has to go through before he can choose happiness. But theory is often easier than praxis. So it goes.

Well thank you! But before you start to believe I’m even vaguely close to being a genius, I should inform me that most of the ferret memes are not of my creation; they were either submitted to me by my fantastic followers or I scoured the internet for them
The theme is called Random Daze. I grabbed it from the theme garden, but as I look through now, it seems to have been removed. Sorry :(
My existence would be entirely meaningless but for the wonderful people of Tumblr, one of whom is you. So I owe you my thanks as well!

Two caveats:
1. I’m not much of an expert on the history of philosophy.
2. “Gnosticism” can be either a very narrow or a very broad term; it’s been used to describe a bunch of schools of thought.
He’s not exactly ancient Greek, but you could make the case (perhaps a shaky case) that Plotinus (and, more broadly, Neoplatonism) of the Late Antique period is sort of a middle ground.
Really, you should ask someone more knowledgeable about the history of philosophy; I’m sure you would get a MUCH better answer than this.

It hardly matters because the Rapture is a mere two days away, remember?
People have always said that the next generation is experiencing a catastrophic moral/philosophical decline, but somehow, the human race has always continued living.
I looked to see if there was already a Fuck Yeah for Phil Major Ferret, and I didn’t find one. What is this Heck Yeah business?

That seems really weird to me, because I only know 1 female major and I believe there’s 1 female professor. But I guess every school is different.
Also, I didn’t make the one you’re referring to myself; I just found it floating around the internet.
I’ve just been really busy working on, of all things, an ethics paper. But I’ve got a whole stockpile of ferrets, so I’ll try to be better about uploading them. Of course, submissions always help!

I’m not sure what that means, but if it makes this blog easier to access/read, I’m all for it.
Stop arguing with the person? Sure. Accept their argument? NEVER.
Every statement I make is false. This statement, however, is true: thank you!
